The Millar Team helps out in their community!
The Karen Millar Team volunteers every Tuesday morning at a school in the Don Mills area through The Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS). We cook the children a nutritional breakfast and make sure they eat it! It's only 2 hours a week but it helps! This morning we fed 30 children. Yesterday it was 50 and last Friday the school fed breakfast to over 80 hungry children!
It's hard to believe but 1 in 3 children in Toronto live in poverty. The TFSS provides 83,000 Toronto students with nutritious meals and snacks each school day.
Why are student nutrition programs important?
• A hungry child cannot learn;
• Almost 40% of food bank users in Toronto are children under 18;
• 20% of parents who use food banks report no food in the house 1 day per week;
• Children with episodic periods of hunger are 7-12 times more likely to require special education and remedial programming.
I'm not asking you to volunteer your time but please, donate non parishable food items to your neighbourhood food bank, grocery store or fire hall.
A little help goes a long way!
