Pay it Forward-Project 162!
There was a tragic loss in our community over the Christmas holidays. Please pass this along and give if you can.
As many of you know, Cynthia, Gary and Spencer Hoy are organizing the Project 162 - PAY IT FORWARD Alistair Hoy Memorial Blood Donor Clinic on April 29th in Memory of their son and brother Alistair. He fought for his life for 17 days after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 20,2010.During his 17 days in the hospital Alistair went through 162 units of blood! Given that we only have 12 units in our body that is a tremendous amount. Never once during his brief battle was there a question of blood being available for him. I am sure we can all appreciate how comforting it is to know that if someone we loved needed blood it would be available. Less than 2% of the eligible population in the GTA donate blood, and while all of us are inundated with requests for giving, this request is different. Everyone can help ! PAY IT FORWARD... “BLOOD... IT’S IN YOU TO GIVE! " Please help us make this Blood Drive an enormous success. Help us honor Alistair Hoy and let his family know that the ripples of his life will continue to move through us all. CALL CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES NOW AT 1-888-2DONATE ( 1-888-236-6283) TO REGISTER. This call will ensure that Canadian Blood Services will be able to accommodate all of us who want to help.
There will be two clinics on April 29th, one at Don Mills Collegiate located at 15 Donway E. from 10am to 2pm and one at Jubilee United Church, 40 Underhill Drive from 3pm to 8pm. The church clinic will also be hosting a BBQ, Car Wash and Raffle. This event is on facebook so search PROJECT 162 – PAY IT FORWARD or click on the link http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=183242505047799 to post a message and rsvp (as well as to Canadian Blood Services). Let everyone know. Send the facebook event to your children over 17 yrs., to your friends, to your family and to your neighbours!!!
Our thoughts are with the family and we thank everyone who participates!
Karen
