Clean out your kitchen

You might think that potatoes are good forever. Think again. Bad potatoes can host a toxin that wards of pests – and also harms humans. If your spud turns green, toss it or risk having issues with your nervous system.

Moldy bread might seem innocuous. But don’t just scrape off the mold, throw away the bread. Eating bread mold won’t just cause an upset stomach, it can potentially lead to serious things including cancer.

It’s a risk to eat bad eggs. If they’re not fresh, you risk getting an upset stomach or even salmonella. You can tell if it’s bad when the egg white and yolk aren’t really separated.

Contrary to popular opinion, canned goods can spoil. If the expiration date has passed, don’t take the risk. Is the can bent or swollen? Toss it. Expired canned goods sometimes carry botulism.

A wilted cucumber won’t hurt anyone. But one with “tears” on it will. This liquid is actually a chemical of decomposition that will ruin your intestinal lining.

Dry spices should be tossed eventually. If dust follows your herbs, they might be infected by insects.

If your dry goods, granola or popcorn, smells wrong, it is wrong. The nose knows. Toss it because smelly dry goods might be decomposing and will definitely cause a tummy ache.

Spice cabinets are one of the most common places for spoiled goods. When’s the last time you cleaned that out? Take a few hours this weekend to sort through your pantry and toss out the dangerous items. You’ll be glad you did.
